{"id":19011,"date":"2025-03-10T19:01:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T23:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peoplesfood.coop\/newsite\/?p=19011"},"modified":"2025-03-10T19:01:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T23:01:33","slug":"slow-cooker-corned-beef-and-cabbage-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peoplesfood.coop\/newsite\/2025\/03\/10\/slow-cooker-corned-beef-and-cabbage-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow-Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By: Co+op<br \/>\nReprinted with permission from grocery.<\/p>\n<p>Recipe Information<br \/>\nTotal Time: 9 hours; 20 minutes active<br \/>\nServings: 8<\/p>\n<p>This easy and comforting dish is a popular St. Patrick\u2019s Day tradition, but it can also be enjoyed any time of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients<br \/>\n    5 garlic cloves, crushed<br \/>\n    1 large onion, cut in thick vertical wedges<br \/>\n    2 cups water<br \/>\n    1 tablespoon sugar<br \/>\n    2 tablespoons vinegar<br \/>\n    8 oz. beer, lager (optional)<br \/>\n    3 lbs. corned beef brisket<br \/>\n    1 teaspoon mustard seeds<br \/>\n    2 bay leaves<br \/>\n    8 allspice berries<br \/>\n    1\/2 teaspoon pepper<br \/>\n    2 large carrots, sliced<br \/>\n    1 lb. small red potatoes, quartered<br \/>\n    1\/2 head green cabbage, chopped<\/p>\n<p>Preparation<br \/>\n    1. Scatter the garlic and onions in the bottom of the crockpot. Place beef on top of onions and garlic.<br \/>\n    2. In a cup, mix together water, beer, sugar and vinegar. (If you are not using beer, use water in its place.)<br \/>\n    3. Pour over beef and then sprinkle the mustard seeds, bay leaves, allspice berries and pepper over the beef.<br \/>\n    4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 5 hours. Add the carrots, potatoes and cabbage to the slow cooker and stir, then cover and  set to high. Cook for another 2 hours. Remove the beef; once it has cooled, slice across the grain into 1\/2-inch pieces.<br \/>\n    5. Taste the broth and season to taste (the corned beef may have salted it enough).<br \/>\n    6. To serve, place the sliced beef in the hot cabbage broth and let it warm through.
