Grocery Store<\/h3>\n

The People\u2019s Food Co-op is Ann Arbor\u2019s first natural-foods grocery store carrying a full-range of groceries, produce & environmentally sensitive cleaning products. No need to worry when going to or hosting a party – take along some of our really delicious cheese and a bottle of wine or some local beer and you will be all set. We buy from local businesses when at all possible and emphasize organic whenever feasible. Foods that contains artificial preservatives or color will not appear on our shelves and check out our product standards page<\/a> for more transparency in our food system. So whether you are shopping for the week or popping in for something during your lunch hour our intention is to have what you need when you need it !<\/h6>\n

Produce<\/h3>\n

Local ! Local ! Local ! is the mantra here in our produce aisle. Whether our produce is grown using organic practices or if the grower is using the very expensive certification process, we work towards a wide and balanced selection; offering affordable options as stated in Co-op Policy E.1. d. We have been working with many of our farmers for a lot of years and are excited to be able to branch out and purchase from many of the new small growers in the immediate area. Using innovative methods, some of the new small farmers are producing well into the winter. We will always have to compromise since Michigan is not known for its long sunny growing season, LOL, but we do it carefully and thoughtfully.<\/p>\n

Many of Ann Arbor\u2019s local alternative health care providers make our wellness department section a destination and often send their clients to us because of our good selection of supplements, bulk and encapsulated medicinal herbs, tinctures, homeopathics, healing salves and balms. <\/strong>We even have handmade soaps salves, and hair care products that are perfect for pampering with a clear conscience, since they include cruelty-free and fragrance-free and hypoallergenic options<\/p>\n

Although we are not a pharmacy and can\u2019t diagnose conditions or prescribe remedies, our knowledgeable staff can help you locate your selections. We do encourage you to always check with your healthcare practitioner before starting any new treatment or diet regimen.<\/em><\/p>\n

Co-op kitchen staff can be found working away seven days a week in our tiny kitchen making the sandwiches, the meals to go, the tasty cold dishes, everything in the salad bar and nearly all the dishes in the hot bar! Staying true to how many Co-ops began we have a really extensive bulk section where you can get everything from bright orange lentils to wonderfully warm sticky local honey. You can grind as much or as little peanut butter as your heart desires or take home a giant bag of malt balls to eat in the car! Co-op members receive a 20% discount off the shelf price (or sale price, whichever is lower) for non-perishables. Non-members save 10%. Our area is lucky to have local milk and egg producers and much of what we have in the coolers is of course organic. We carry a selection of animal rennet free cheese as well as an interesting selection of other cheeses from sweet smelling to stinky! Lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, mochas, americanos – Caf\u00e9 Baristas make them all from Fair Trade and organic coffees faithfully sourced from around our planet by Higher Grounds Coffee Merchants<\/a> and Roos Roast.<\/a> These Baristas will brew you a refreshing cup coffee or tea. The cream and milk for your coffee is always organic and we offer natural sweeteners like raw sugar, honey and stevia<\/a> too. Then when you are hungry for a tasty meal just build yourself a nice salad, fill up a bowl of soup or serve yourself a meal from our hot and cold bars. We always have something that will hit the spot.

They work tirelessly throughout the night to create our pretty and delicious baked goods for the days when you need a treat – no need to go without treats if you are vegan<\/strong> or \u2018gluten free\u2019<\/strong> we make delicious ones just for you. Everything is made with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and organic flour of course !

Grocery Store<\/h3>\r\nThe People's Food Co-op is Ann Arbor's first natural-foods grocery and we carry a full-range of groceries. We buy local and organic whenever possible. We do not sell food that contains preservatives nor artificial color. We avoid GMOs or label them when we can. We also carry and have great prices on beer and wine. We're also known for well-priced cheeses.\r\n

Pick It<\/h4>\r\nChoose from our wide variety of bulk grains, beans, snacks, cereals, nuts, seeds, oils, vinegars, honeys, soy sauces, flours, baking needs, herbs, teas, spices, salts and sugars. Get a little or a lot, depending on your needs.[\/one_third]\r\n\r\n[one_third]\r\n

Pack & Weigh It<\/h4>\r\nWe provide bags or you can buy plastic containers with lids for a nominal fee. You may also bring your own containers like canning or spice jars. When you use a container, please weigh the empty container on our bulk scale and write this \u201ctare\u201d weight on a bulk sticker. The cashier will deduct the container weight from the total.[\/one_third]\r\n\r\n[one_third_last]\r\n

Note the PLU #<\/h4>\r\nPLU stands for Price Look Up and is the number we've assigned to each bulk item. Record the PLU on either the bulk sticker or twist tie. Our cashiers will weigh your item and enter the PLU to look up the price.[\/one_third_last]\r\n

Case Discounts<\/h5>\r\nNeed a lot of something? Want to save some money? We can pre-order you a case of any item we carry. Co-op members receive a 20% discount off the shelf price (or sale price, whichever is lower) for non-perishables. Non-members save 10%. Anyone can save 10% off a case order of perishable goods.\u00a0<\/span>Ask a cashier how you can place an order today. We can usually get what you need within a few business days.\r\n

We serve paninis, bagels, sandwiches, cookies and pastries (including vegan options). Many are made right here at the Co-op. Others are sourced locally from area bakeries like Detroit\u2019s Avalon and Ypsilanti\u2019s River St. Bakery. Coffee selections vary from day to day. Our coffee comes to you via\u00a0Equal Exchange<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>whose trading partners span the world\u2019s coffee-growing cooperatives. Also\u00a0Brewing Hope<\/span><\/a><\/span>, which is sourced directly from the Yachil Cooperative in Santa Catarina, Chiapas, Mexico, and roasted by the\u00a0Higher Grounds Trading Company<\/span><\/a><\/span>.\r\n\r\nAt Cafe Verde we offer a complete menu of lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, macchiatos, americanos and\u00a0the like. In addition, we also offer a wide selection of teas and fresh juices and smoothies. You can or<\/span>der off the menu or get creative with your own combination. In the fall, you are likely to also find cid<\/span>er from local orchards or freshly squeezed lemonade to cool you off in summer. The cream and milk for your coffee will be organic and we offer natural sweeteners like raw sugar, honey and\u00a0<\/span>stevia<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>if you like.<\/span> At PFC we are committed to a healthy environment. We use compostable cups, napkins, to-go containers and flatware made from renewable resources.<\/em>\r\n
