Failed 2021 Board of Directors’ Election

Letter to our members concerning the PFC 2021 Board of Directors’ election

There will be no board of directors’ election this year due to the fact that we only received two candidate applications for three open board seats.  The PFC Linkage Committee, which organizes and oversees the yearly PFC directors’ election, opened the board candidate application on Jan. 4, 2021. In spite of our diligent efforts through in-store notices, social media posts, several emails and two deadline extensions, we failed to meet the committee’s recommendation of at least four candidates for three open seats. As per PFC bylaw 5.2, current directors shall serve for three (3) years or until their successors are elected, whichever is longer. Also, open seats–when they occur–can be filled by appointment and the approval of current board members (bylaw 5.9). One of the applicants was a current board member who will continue to serve until the next election (Jaime Magiera).

We encourage current members to join our monthly board meetings, to engage with us through our work, let us know if you are interested in working with the board as an appointed director or apply as a candidate for next year’s board election. Contact us at president@peoplesfood.coop or watch for notices beginning in January 2022.

We remind the membership of our Annual Meeting on April 27th at 6:30 p.m.  It’s vitally important to be part of the co-op through this important event.  We will have a celebrated guest speaker, Dr. Oran Hesterman, along with reporting on the business health of our cooperative.
